Customs officials seize 3,560kgs of charas

Directorate General of Intelligence & Investigation Peshawar has confiscated a huge quantity of 3,560 kilograms of charas, says an official press release issued here Friday.

Sources in the FBR revealed that recovery of the drug was made following a tip-off received by Regional Office of Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation, Peshawar regarding a huge amount of charas being smuggled via an oil tanker from the tribal territory of Khyber Agency to down country and thereafter to foreign destination. Accordingly a team was deputed to thwart this attempt.

The team set up a secret naka on Motorway (M-1) on 28.10.2010 and was able to successfully intercept Oil Tanker bearing Registration No.TTB-860 (Quetta) and recover 3560 kgs of charas hidden in secret chambers of the Oil Tankers. Both the driver namely Muhammad Riaz S/o Sabir Ali R/o Sahiwal and Cleaner namely Khan Alam Khan S/o Mira Ali Khan of Khyber Agency were taken into custody on the spot.

The estimated value of the recovered narcotics is about 140 million rupees. The recovered charas and the Oil Tanker were taken into custody under proper documentation. Initial investigation from the accused person revealed that the consignment had been destined to Karachi first and then abroad. FIR has been lodged and further investigation is underway.
