The Directorate General of Training & Research (Customs) organized an orientation session for Customs officials on “Smuggling Activities and Anti-Smuggling Strategy” in collaboration with Pakistan Tobacco Company on Tuesday 26th March 2013. The objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of the new concepts being used for smuggling activities and anti-smuggling strategy used worldwide.
Ms. Rubina Wasti, Director Training welcomed the participants and representatives from other allied agencies such as FIA, Police, and IRS. Mr. Ramzan Bhatti, Ex- Member was the main speaker on the occasion. The Director, Ms. Rubina Wasti in her speech emphasized that the objective of seminar is to provide a comprehensive overview of the new concepts being adopted worldwide regarding illicit trade specifically cigarette industry and its counterfeiting as well to enhance the cooperation among the relevant agencies to combat the illegal trade.
Mr. Ramzan Bhatti who is an institution in himself explained the illicit trade and its impact on national economy. The presentations were very informative and the participants actively participated in the question answer session after the presentation.
The comprehensive Seminar/ Orientation Program for Law Enforcement Agencies was very successful and was well attended by the Customs officers and representatives from other allied agencies. Mementoes and certificates were distributed at the end by the Director Training.
During the course of the seminar all the participants from Customs as well as from other law enforcement agencies appreciated the efforts of the DGTR (Customs) in conducting such an informative and well organized session. They all ware of the view that such seminars may also be conducted at other regional offices at Lahore and Islamabad.
As per the directives of the Member Customs/ Director General Intelligence & Investigation FBR, the DGTR (Customs) similar seminars were arranged at regional offices of the DGTR (Customs) at Lahore and Islamabad. These seminars were fruitful and beneficial for all the stakeholders and also increased the inter-agency cooperation as well. All the senior officers of FBR, Islamabad and Lahore attended the seminars and found the information very useful in combating illicit trade. The feedback received from the participants was very positive and thus the series of the seminars was very successful.
