Awareness Seminar in Skardu - Fight Against Counterfeit Goods

The Directorate of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement (North), Islamabad, in collaboration with Brand Protection Systems Pvt. Limited, Karachi, recently organized a two-day awareness seminar in Skardu, Pakistan. The seminar aimed to shed light on the critical issue of counterfeit and infringing goods, their impact on the economy, and Pakistan’s commitment to combatting this menace.
The seminar focused on educating participants about the dangers of counterfeit products. These illicit goods not only harm the economy but also endanger consumers’ health and safety. Participants learned how counterfeit items infiltrate consumer markets and the steps needed to prevent their circulation.
During the seminar, law enforcement agencies had the opportunity to interact and collaborate. Representatives from the Police, Federal Investigation Agency, and Intellectual Property Organization vowed to strengthen efforts against counterfeit goods. Faculty members from the University of Baltistan and judges from the judiciary also participated, emphasizing the importance of collective action. Government officers, including those from the Department of Commerce, actively engaged in the session. Their participation highlighted the need for cross-sectoral cooperation. Additionally, representatives from Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Gilgit, Hunza Nagar, and Skardu, along with the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gilgit, contributed valuable insights during discussions.
The Directorate of IPRE (North), Islamabad, has consistently been at the forefront of combating Intellectual Property Rights violations. Since 2023, it has proactively handled more than 50 seizure and forfeiture cases, with a total value exceeding 6 billion PKR. By expanding its reach to far-flung areas, the department aims to create awareness among the masses and curb the availability of counterfeit items. The Directorate of IPRE (North), Islamabad is committed to safeguarding Pakistan’s economy and protecting consumers from the harmful effects of counterfeit products. Through collaborative efforts, we can create a positive change and ensure a counterfeit-free marketplace.
