FBR intensifies operations against illicit and smuggled cigarettes

Tobacco sector is one of the leading sectors of revenue contribution and realizing this significance, FBR has instructed its field formations to gear up their anti-smuggling operations against illicit and smuggled cigarettes. DG (I&I IR) and DG (I&I Customs) and Collectors have been instructed by the chairman FBR to supervise the operations and ensure that every possible avenue of illicit trade in tobacco sector be checked so that huge revenue leakages can be prevented.

I & I Customs has seized 6.7 million cartons of smuggled cigarettes from July 2020 to November 2020 having approximate value of Rs. 542 million whereas IREN (Inland Revenue Enforcement Network) established in September 2019 with a Chief Coordinator, Central Field Coordinator and seven regional enforcement hubs all across Pakistan, tasked to conduct raids and seizures on the counterfeit and non-duty paid cigarettes has seized 35.8 million sticks of cigarettes during the period from July 2020 to November 2020.

FBR further clarifies that despite ongoing health hazards, its teams are making all out efforts to curb the menace of smuggled, counterfeit and non-duty paid cigarettes.

ملکی ریونیو کے اضافہ میں تمباکو کی صنعت نہایت اہمیت کی حامل ہے۔ چئیر مین ایف بی آر کی ہدایات پرڈائیکٹر جنرل،  آئی اینڈ آئی (آئی آر) ، ڈائیریکٹر جنرل آئی اینڈ آئی کسٹمز  اور تمام کولیکٹرز نے غیر قانونی اور سمگل شدہ سگریٹ کی خرید و فروخت کے خلاف آپریشن تیز کر دیئے ہیں۔ آئی اینڈ آئی کسٹمز نے جولائی تا نومبر کے عرصہ میں 67 لاکھ سمگل شدہ سگریٹ کارٹنز کو ضبط کیا ہے جن کی مالیت 542 ملین تک ہے۔ ستمبر 2019 میں ان لینڈ ریونیو انفورسمنٹ نیٹ ورک تشکیل دیا گیا جس میں ایک چیف کوآرڈینیٹر اور ایک مرکزی فیلڈ کو آرڈینیٹر لگائے گئے اور ملک بھر میں سات علاقائی انفورسمنٹ آفسز تشکیل دیئے گئے۔ ان لینڈ رینیو انفورسمنٹ نیٹ ورک نے جولائی تا نومبر عرصہ میں 35.8 ملین سگریٹ سٹیک ضبط کئے ۔

صحت کو درپیش موجودہ حالات کے باوجود ایف بی آر کی ٹیمیں سمگل شدہ، جعلی اور نان ڈیوٹی پیڈ سگریٹ کی خرید و فروخت کے  خلاف نہایت تندہی اور جانفشانی سے آپریشنز کر رہی ہے۔
