FBR denies news about tax waiver to Najam Sethi

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has denied a news appearing in a section of the print and electronic media regarding waiver by Government of tax payable by Mr. Najam Sethi.

It has been clarified that income tax amounting to Rs. 10,625,133 was imposed on Mr. Najam Sethi for the tax year 2009. On an appeal filed by the taxpayer, Commissioner (Appeals) Lahore cancelled the order creating the tax demand. However, the Income Tax Department Lahore has assailed the order of the Commissioner Appeals by filing an appeal before the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue for restoration of the tax imposed.
