Customs officials seize drugs, oil worth over Rs 100 million

The Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation-FBR have seized heroin, Hashish and smuggled oil worth over Rs 100 million in two incidents, according to a press release issued Saturday.

In the first incident, a team of the Directorate officials of Regional Office of DG I&I Peshawar arrested two persons and recovered from them 2,240 kilogram (gross weight) of Hashish and 14 kilogram (gross weight) of heroin powder being transported on a truck from tribal areas to the down-country.

Acting on a tip-off, the staff intercepted the truck on the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway and found the drugs concealed under a load of marble scrap. The value of the seized drugs is estimated at Rs 100 million in the international market.

In another incident, the Model Customs Collectorate Hyderabad staff impounded an oil tanker loaded with 35,200 high-speed smuggled diesel on the Hyderabad Bypass. The value of the oil is estimated at Rs 2.8 million. The driver of the tanker has been arrested following an FIR lodged in the court of Special Judge Customs and Anti-Smuggling, Karachi.
