AT DGTR (CUSTOMS), KARACHI & ISLAMABAD

The Directorate General of Training & Research (Customs) organized a series of comprehensive seminars on “Intellectual Property Rights” at Karachi and Islamabad in the month of March and April 2013. In order to provide a broad overview of the new concepts being adopted worldwide regarding IPRs and its counterfeiting as well to enhance the cooperation among the relevant agencies to combat the illegal trade.
Mr. Muhammad Yahya, the Chief Collector of Customs Appraisement, Karachi was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Ms. Rubina Wasti, Director Training welcomed the chief guest and the participants and representatives from other allied agencies such as FIA, Police, and IRS. The chief guest Mr. Muhammad Yahya in his inaugural speech appreciates the efforts of the Directorate General of Training and Research for organizing such informative, Knowledgeable and well organized seminar. He said that it is the need of time that all the concerned agencies should increase the inter-agency cooperation to combat the menace of illicit trade including IPRs.
The Director Training and Research, Ms. Rubina Wasti in her address stress that training of all the law enforcement staff of not only Pakistan Customs department but also other agencies operating at the entry and exit point of the country is very necessary as with inter-agency cooperation the menace of illicit trade, smuggling of Counterfeit goods will not be possible and results in huge revenue losses which has very adverse effects on the economy of our country.
During the course of the seminar presentation were delivered by representatives of various departments including Intellectual Property Rights Organization, Federal Investigation Agency, Pakistan Tobacco Company, Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation- FBR (Customs) and Model Customs Collectorate of Preventive. All the presentations were very informative and well delivered by the speakers.
At the end Certificates and Souvenirs were distributed among the dignitaries and participants of the seminar by the Director Training and Research.
The participants and the resource persons gave a consensus to the Director Training and Research that since the head quarters of all the agencies including the FBR are located at Islamabad, hence a similar seminar may be arranged at DGTR (Customs), Islamabad so that it could be fruitful and beneficial for all the stakeholders. The higher management of FBR including honorable Member Customs and Director General Intelligence & Investigation FBR also appreciates the efforts of Ms. Rubina Wasti in organizing an informative seminar on IPR and gave their directives to organize a replica of the same seminar at other regional offices of DGTR (Customs) as well. Hence, keeping in view the importance of the subject and the feedback received from the participants a similar seminar was organized at DGTR (Customs) at Islamabad on 18th April, 2013.
The seminar at Islamabad was also a great success as it was attended by participants in numbers from almost all the stakeholders. It was also attended by the Member (Customs), The Director General Intelligence and Investigation and higher management of other law enforcement agencies.
